Remember Macavity? He was the English cat who made headlines a couple of years back when he began to regularly take the bus…to a local fish and chip shop (hey, cats have always been wiley and smart…why walk to partake in some tasty mosels when you can be driven there?), and then caught the bus back.
And for years, people have reported sightings of pigeons regularly taking the London tube – often the same one, going to its favourite stops. They wait patiently for the tran to stop, then get off at their stop.
Well, the dogs of Moscow refuse to be left out.
Just like you and me, these dogs (they’re strays) have to make a living. So they board the ttrains each day and head into the city looking for food from kindly strangers (or wherever the can get it…like barking suddenly to get people to drop their food).
The dogs even work together to make sure they get off at the right stop And in the evenings? They take the train back out to the burs, for a well-earned night’s sleep…
Your erstwhile blogger is suffering a sad case of the injuries and figured this adorable video, brought to my attention by the great site serious eats, was the perfect thing to take the mind off the pain – and it also works perfectly for any kind of pick-me-up you may be needing…
So here’s the adorable video of a baby bunny eating a flower, the washing his face.
And don’t worry: the baby bunny was not on the serious eats menu.
Remember the Shiba Inu 6 puppy cam that streamed extreme cuteness via little puppies into your computer 24 hours a day a while ago?
Well, once again you can enjoy puppy cam with the Shiba Inu 5.
Kika, the mother of the original 6 has given birth to 5 more adorable puppies. And you can watch them here! But please don’t blame us if all you find yourself doing is watching the puppies as they play, sleep, wrestle and sleep. Although there must be worse things you could do with your time!
Angel, an 18 month old Golden Retriever, is very much the hero to his 11 year old master, and to the whole family.
When Austin Forman, of British Columbia, Canada, was outside in his backyard collecting firewood at 5.30pm last Saturday, he noticed his dog wasn’t playing happily as normal. Instead Angel was sticking close to him.
It soon became obvious why Angel was behaving strangely when a cougar (not the older lady kind!) came charging out of the woods behind the house, straight for Austin.
Angel leapt into action and went for the cougar, throwing herself at him to save her master.
Austin ran inside to his mother. The distraught boy was finally able to say, “There’s a cougar eating angel.”
His mother called 911. Luckily a passing constable was in the area and ran to their place, where he was able to shoot the cougar dead.
At first, it looked like Angel had been killed by the cougar but showing the courage and determination dogs have, she got to her feet and went to Austin, to make sure he was all rigiht.
Angel suffered some deep bites and scratches but it is believed she’s going to be okay.
The boy and his grandfather went to town later to buy Angel a big steak as her reward.
Did you know the Keeshond is a very old breed of dog? In fact, they’ve always been used as watchdogs, and as a companion for humans.
Luckily, even though they are still great watchdogs today and will let you know when strangers come to your home, they’re not a yappy dog, nor are they attack dogs.
They’re affectionate, and usually of a happy disposition.
These adorable pictures of a baby polar bear ‘attacking’ the zookeeper have been making the rounds on the Internets and really are the perfect things to set the tone for both the morning and the weekend!
You can view the rest of the photos here. They’re from the zoo in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada.
Yep, yoga for dogs is the new craze sweeping the nation. And it actually makes sense. Look at the way a dog (and indeed cats) stretch, it becomes obvious they were born for yoga (cats would be born for yoga if you could actually get one to do what you wanted them to do, when you want them to do it..).
It’s a great way to for you and your dog to get fit, both mind and body, and a fantastic way to bond with your pooch and spend more time together.
So how does doga work? Basically you, the dog owner, stretch your dog into the positions while utilising massage and meditation. You also get your own yoga (doga) positions by using your dog as your prop for the different positions.
If you want to check out doga, you’re in luck. Doga classes are popping up all over, and if you happen to live somewhere doga classes are yet to appear you can buy doga class DVDs.
Standing at a majestic 42.375 inches tall, Titan, a great Dane, has won the title of World’s Tallest dog and made it into the pages of the Guinness Book of Records.
The 4 year old dog, who was adopted from a Tennessee Great Dane rescue group when he was a pup is epileptic, deaf, partially blind and suffers spine issues common among Great Danes.
His proud owner, Diana Taylor, says he was very excited to receive the certificate and slobbered all over it – -a sure sign of an excited and happy dog! But Titan isn’t letting his new-found fame go to his head. No. He’s still the same sweet, gentle and friendly dog he’s always been. He still greets his many fans, old and young when they come to say hello to him on his daily walks along the beach in his hometown of San Diego.
Apparently young children often mistake him for a horse or a cow. Hmm, we say more like an adorable giraffe!
Think animals are cute and adorable and there for us to coo over, you might need to think again.
Since it’s Friday the 13th, it seems fitting to bring you slightly sinister (but fascinating) stories from the animal world. And we’re starting with this one from the Furuvik zoo nestled in postcard picturesque Sweden.
For the past 12 years visitors to the chimpanzee enclosure have been taking their well-being into their own hands as Santino, a chimp, is an expert at throwing stones (no sticks, though).
That’s right. Santino the chimp likes to ward off visitors by launching stone (and sometimes bits of concrete) missiles at people. In fact, it’s not just a stone here and there, but a barrage. Some people have described his attacks as being like a hail storm. But…people keep going back.
Scientists have become most intrigued by Santino since they realised he actually goes and collects stones from the enclosure’s moat and amasses stone stockpiles, ahead of time. In careful piles. Piles that have been set up in various places in the enclosure. And those various places are ones with unimpeded views (all the better to attack you from!).
Yes, this behaviour is disturbing to say the least (although perhaps not as much as the fact people keep visiting, even knowing they’re risking injury by stone), but it is fascinating. Experts say this is actual proof that animals can plan for the future, something they had always thought was exclusively human.
As for the reasoning behind the attacks, Santino isn’t saying. He also has refused to respond to commands to stop his attacks on visitors. Because of this, he’s now been removed from the enclosure and spends his time indoors. Presumably watching the Soaps and eating Bonbons and planning the chimp takeover of the world…
