One of the reasons I love all things Japanese…
The pet evacuation jacket.
These pictures, on loan from the Japan Trend Shop, don’t really tell the whole story, although they try. They try.
The jacket and all its bits are made for both cats and dogs, and come with a convenient carry handle on the top of the jacket. I’m assuming this is for when you wish to flee (say, from a fire, earthquake, flood or the powers of Godzilla) with your pet, you can just nab hold and run. Or perhaps this is for when you need a really fancy handbag for your next red carpet visit. There’s really no end to the possibilities this handle and jacket combo can serve.
But this is more than a cool silver jacket with a handle.
It’s actually made of the same flame-retardant materials the Japanese firefighters use, and the jacket has special pockets for you to store all kinds of things you’ll need come the apocalyptic emergency.
And this truly amazing super cool Japanese pet jacket comes with a food bowl, rain hood and booties (for chemical spills or puddles?), muzzle, special gel packs that you freeze then slip into the jacket to control temperature, a bell, waterproof ID capsule and a hermatically sealed odour control bag…
If you think that’s a lot, there’s more to come! It also has rubber gloves, mini-radio, whistle, aromatic calming oil, special water packs, bandages and nutrition bars.
It retails for $468!
Of course, if this is slightly out of your price range, never fear. A good, firm emergency plan is just as good. Not as slick and well, Japanese, but good. Besides, Japanese cats might put up with being carried around by a handle when an emergency strikes, but I’m not sure any of the cats I know would allow me to do that without me bleeding profusely.
The dogs on the other hand…
