Did You Know???

541447~Australian-Kangaroo-Posters

That the Australian kangaroo is the world’s largest marsupial? A marsupial is an animal that give birth to undeveloped  foetuses that then live in pouch on the mother where they then develop to maturity.

Kangaroos are known and loved around the world by millions of people, but if you visit Australia and find one in the wild, then don’t approach it. The kangaroo is capable of either capturing you in its strong, small forearms, and using its tail to lean back on, can then pummel you with their powerful legs. Legs that have sharp claws that can cut through clothes and  skin with no worries.

We’re not saying they’re aggressive and violent, but it’s never a good idea to  mosey on up to a wild animal.

One of the most fascinating things about the kangaroo is it’s able to actually halt the growth of a foetus when bad times such as droughts, hit. Called embryonic diapause, this trick allows the mother to wait until there is enough food and water for the best chance of survival of the mother and the baby.

Doggone It! A Doggy Rescue.

A walk along Brighton Pier in Victoria, Australia, almost ended in tragedy for Bi Bi, a Shih Tzu-Maltese cross, when gale-force winds swept him into the turbulent sea.

As owner Sue Drummond looked on helplessly, 20 year old Raden Soemawinata stripped down to his tighty whities and jumped into the water to save the dog.

And save the little pooch he did. The part-time model (on the pier with his family to scatter his grandmother’s ashes) modestly shook off praise and words of heroism. “It was pretty cold and windy, but it wasn’t such a hard decision to jump in, it wasn’t such a great feat…getting into my jocks isn’t so different to what I do for work.”

He might not think he was a hero, but Sue and Bi Bi most definitely do! And so do we.
