It’s Snowing; look after your pet

dogs20__1231361208_5152

Winter has reared its head once more with a snow storm here in New York. If we’re getting snow, we know other parts of the country are also suffering from last minute winter woes.

With heavy snow it’s a good idea to keep outdoor pets indoors – no one wants their pet disappearing in a pile of snow.

Walks? When the snow is thick on the ground and steadily piling up, even the most snow-loving dog isn’t going to do well. So use your noggin (that’s your head) and get some puppy pads or the special fake grass called PottyPatch for your dog to use as an alternative to outdoors.

Exercise woes for your pet are no fun, but be creative. If you live in an apartment building, why not strap on the leash and take your dog for a walk through the halls, or even better up and down a few flights of stairs (we suggest doing this after he’s gone to the bathroom, just in case). Playing games with your dog in the house or apartment work, too.

And in cold weather, cats love to sleep on top of motors, under the hood of cars, so please, before you drive off into the day (or the night as the case may be), we suggest checking under the hood for any sleeping kitties.

So keep warm, keep your pets warm and dry and if you live in a warm state, can we come visit?

going away? what to do with your pet

shh...puppy is sleeping...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with putting your pet in a kennel when you have to go away and can’t take your furry friend with you…as a last resort.

Kennels are great places when there’s nowhere else to go.

We aren’t saying they’re not to be trusted, because for the most part (some dodgy ones aside) they are and we know you always do your homework and find the very best place for your pet, but…have you really exhausted all your options?

Being separated from you is always going to be traumatic for your pet, and being tucked away with strangers, no matter how fantastic they are with animals, is always going to be worst of all.

Before you take the last option of a kennel, have you thought about:

  • a house/pet sitter? This is the best option. Someone you know, someone you trust stays in your house with your pet while your away. Your pet is in familiar surroundings and is being taken care of by a friend. Ask around. Often, if a friend can’t do it, they’ll know someone who can.
  • sleeping over? Another great option is letting a friend take your pet into their home while you’re gone. This is great for those who want a pet, but really aren’t allowed to.
  • daily visits? Perhaps your friend, family member or trusted someone can’t actually stay at your place or take your pet in, but they can make daily (sometimes twice daily) visits.

All these options are available to you. And there are professional pet sitters out there, who will look after your pet in any one of these ways, for a fraction of the cost of a kennel.

Don’t feel like you’re imposing on friends and family. Ask, offer monetary compensation. And, if you feel you can’t ask friends and family, then try hiring someone first.

Kennels are great…as a last resort.

New Puppy? Three Things You Need

4306605721_3b5b5ee7eb

Congratulations on your new puppy!

Today we’re not going to talk about puppy proofing your home – if you already have the puppy, then no doubt you’ve done that already. No, we’re here to talk about the other stuff.

Of course, you’ve stocked up on food, have puppy pads and toys, but have you thought about something that will help him not only teethe properly, but will also clean his teeth? Royal Treatment’s dental ball and paste will do just that! And you can also put peanut butter in sometimes, just for a treat.

And what about wipes? Like baby wipes, but specially formulated for a dog. They’re perfect for wiping down for a bit of grooming inbetween baths, and also for keeping puppy clean after any ‘accidents’. And they work for giving your puppy a wipe down after a good, hard play in the yard, or down at the dog park. Good dog wipes are designed to pamper your pet while providing soothing hydrating properties. If they happen to be organic, so much the better!

Of course, this brings us to bath time. It’s good to get  a dog used to baths while they’re puppies. But being puppies, it pays to choose wisely when buying shampoos and conditioners. We recommend buying a high quality organic shampoo and conditioner for your puppy. Organic is luxury, but that doesn’t mean it has to come with a price tag to match.

Hello, 2010!

perla and pancho say happy new year!!!!

Welcome to 2010! Happy new year, everyone.

A brand new year is just what we need to kick off good deeds towards our animal friends. Whether it’s donating cash, some food or your time to help out those animals lliving in shelters, or whether you decide to adopt a new pet, this is the year to do it.

Even with your own pets, this is the year to increase their quality of life, through better food, toys and treats. Don’t just pamper your pet with a shampoo and conditioning, make sure it’s a product that actually helps your pet.

And lastly (and most importantly), set aside a few extra minutes each day for some snuggling time and for play time. A perfect pick-me-up for both of you.

Royal Pet Club wishes you a happy, safe, healthy and prosperous new year!

Hello, My Name Is Marvin

this is my pensive, reflective move. worthy of a hollywood star kind of cat. aka me.

My name is Marvin. Marvin da Cat.

As you can see, I was always destined for superstardom, and my launch into that glittering universe via the Royal Pet Club is very apropos, don’t you think?

I thought so.

I will be popping up here with my thoughts, wisdom (I have a lot of that), views and observations (those, too) to help you humans along in life. Or to just entertain you. It will depend on my whim at the time.

As you can see I am shiny and very glamorous, not to mention exceptionally handsome.

I will let you in on a little secret: it is all natural.

I have never needed organic shampoos, sprays or natural pet supplies to make me shine and smell good. I leave that kind of shenanigans to the dogs. Toys, on the other hand…bring ‘em on.

While I wait for my human (yes, I own one of those to do my bidding) to prepare my nightly feast of delicious chicken, I will say, watch out for my regular blogging here.

Yes, of course cats can blog.

Also, I have been described as the ‘Young Marlon Brando of Cats’ by those in the know. We are talking Marlon circa On The Waterfront.

Until next time.

Meow.

Did You Know?

Wait? My name isn't in the top 5? I don't understand why wubbly-bunny isn't more popular?

What the top ten names for dogs are (male and female) in the USA?

Well neither did we until we investigated. It seems that this year has garnered these top names in both the male and the female categories.

Male:

  1. Max
  2. Buddy
  3. Rocky
  4. Bailey
  5. Jake
  6. Charlie
  7. Jack
  8. Toby
  9. Cody
  10. Buster

And the top female names are:

  1. Bella
  2. Molly
  3. Lucy
  4. Maggie
  5. Daisy
  6. Sophie
  7. Sadie
  8. Chloe
  9. Bailey
  10. Lola

I think they perhaps need a list of the silliest and most unusual names. They’re fun.

We say, whatever you name your pet, whether it be a popular name like one of the ones above, or something silly like Pancake or Orange Blossom, that you make sure your pet is treated like royalty and fed the best you can feed him and given the highest quality in supplements, toys and grooming products.

Because regardless of whether the name is run-of-the-mill, inspired or just plain ridiculous, your dog is the one thing that will constantly light up your life, and that’s worth everything, isn’t it?
